PROJECT ONE & TWO
Eighth Grade Rotation Two Students wanted to learn about three dimensional art. This means they had the opportunity to create a sculpture. I am of the mine that students learn more when there is personal investment - so, what more investment could students have than to create something that is literally apart of them - to give a voice and form and character to the little voice inside their heads. :-) They had created a home for their Imaginary Friend, (I.F.) as project one and once it was just right they created the "Friend".
Look closely at the details. I took several pictures so that you can get a flavor for our very own "Nichols Neighborhood". After viewing the slide show, do read through the mini "biographies".

One day I was at the beach, when suddenly this little creature popped out of nowhere. This creature had no mouth or nose but it did have eyes. I asked the thing what it was but then I remember it had mouth. Even if it did have a mouth it probably didn’t speak english. But then something amazing happened. It was like the creatures answer can through as my thoughts in my head. The creature said, “I am your imaginary friend. Now follow me.” I had so many questions but the creature really seemed like she wanted to go and so I followed her. She started walking toward the water so so did I. Then she jumped under the water and swam away. I quickly jumped under too and started looking around for her. I caught a glimpse of her green spots and antenna and quickly swam after her. Finally we ended up in a small house at the bottom of the ocean.
“This is my house.” she said.
“It’s very nice.” I replied. It had bed in the corner and a table with shells on it. There were also shells on the wall. There was even a clock on the wall made out of a shell.
“I’m guessing you like shells?” I asked
“Yep.” She replied. Then I realized something about her I hadn’t noticed before. She had cat ears and cat eyes.
“Why are you part cat.” I asked
“Because you like cats. Imaginary friends are supposed to some what represent their real friends.”
“Cool I said”
And that is how I met my imaginary friend.

Jim is a metaphor for my brain. He was created when I was. He is all of the intelligence in my head. If Jim wasn’t there, I would be the stupidest person alive. Instead, I am very smart. Jim enjoys a challenge. He likes challenging math problems, and has become particularly good at logic puzzles. In his free time, and occasionally during important times, Jim takes a nap, leaving the helpless real me completely brain-dead. When it is very cold or very hot, Jim’s brother John takes over. John is crazy, and his only goal is to survive. I act stupid in extreme weather.
One winter, John took over and I jumped into a deep hole for warmth. That was a bad idea. Jim had a lot of trouble retaking control, but once he did, he nearly died. The cold was too extreme, and he went into a short coma. I fell asleep. I would have died, had Jim not woken up and seen a stick. I grabbed the stick and Jim told me to shout and wave it outside of the hole. A construction worker saw the stick and came to save me. I got home, and both Jim and John were exhausted, so I went to sleep. When I woke up, I was in school. Jim was tired, but ready for the challenge.
Another time, Jim and I were close to failing a class, and needed to do well on a test. I fell asleep while studying, and woke up late, just before I had to leave for school. When I got the test, Jim telephoned Frederick, my friend Max’s brain, and got the answers. Jim and I learned everything after the test. Jim now has copies of my textbooks on his desk, so whenever I forget something, he can look it up.
Jim lacks common sense though. I might say stupid things for no reason, and that might be because Jim is tired, not very social, or anyone other than Billy is in control. Billy has the social skills. Unfortunately, he tries too hard, and in turn, makes me look bad. Jim allows me to nerd out, which actually makes my image look better. I wouldn’t be able to do anything without Jim, so he is permanently a friend, but on perhaps a deeper level than friendship. Jim is me, and I know him, and he knows me. That’s all our friendship needs.

My imaginary friend’s name is Snow. She lives in a winter themed house in Alaska. She enjoys Alaska, because she can ice skate easily there. I want her to move here, so I tried to tell her that there are skating rinks in Evanston, but she doesn’t like indoor skating rinks.
Snow has magical ice skates to help her learn new tricks. The skates move her feet and when she is ready to try it by herself, she takes them off and puts on a regular skates. She knows many tricks because of the skates, and she goes to many competitions. We usually see each other when she has a competition close to Evanston. I once tried to wear the magical skates, but I was no good. Snow told me, “You have to learn to to trust the skates before you can use the skates!” I don’t trust the skates, so I just use regular skates.
Whenever we are together before the competition, I watch her skate and tell her what she can work on. However, I usually don’t have anything to critique. She is very graceful and practices her routines to perfection.
We have known each other for four years now. We met when I was skating with my family. We were in a skating rink in Chicago, and I saw her doing amazing tricks and asked how she got so good. She told me, “I practice a lot, and practice makes perfect.” She didn’t tell me about the magical skates until we had know each other for a year. She said that she told a friend before, and she thought Snow was crazy and unfriended her.
Snow and her family come to Evanston for Chanukah. That is when we see each other the most. She stays in my room with me while her parents stay in the guest room, and we have a slumber party all week long! My sister always tries to prank us, but Snow always catches the prank before it can happen. Once, I was about to go to bed when Snow shouted, “Don’t! Your sister put something under your covers!” Sure enough, there was the bones from the chicken we had eaten at dinner. “How did you know?” I asked her.
“I had a feeling she was up to something in your room earlier, and there was a small lump on your bed.” I really love when Snow comes! She is a great imaginary best friend!

My imaginary friend’s name is Milly. Milly lives in a kitchen that she made herself. She is not living very far from me, but it would be great if she could me in my house. Milly and I both enjoy cooking. She enjoys making desserts and I enjoy making dinner. Whenever we hang out I am responsible for making dinner and she brings desserts. The best dessert that Milly makes is chocolate brownie cookies. These are cooking with some brownie batter. Milly has a special skill that she can cook with her eyes closed. She was on a cooking show one time and she came to Chicago. I came to see her cook. She did great and got to meet some chefs. Milly and I enjoy to take cooking classes together. Milly thinks that she is a better chef than me, so she tries to impress the cooking instructor. On Thanksgiving Milly and I had a cooking competition. She got 3 gold medals for the best food. I got one silver medal for trying my best. For the rest of the week she was bragging to me about how she is better. She said “from now on I think it would be best if I cooked everything and you didn’t cook.” This made me angry, because I think i am also a great chef. We didn’t talk for 2 weeks, but then I missed her so much, that I forgave her for disrespecting me. I have known Milly for 3.5 years now. Time sure does fly. The way I met Milly was interesting. One day I was just in a restaurant in Northfield, and saw a chef cooking in the kitchen. The food was so delicious that I wanted to talk to the chef. The waiter brought the chef over and we started talking. We both enjoyed to cook. The chef who I was talking to was Milly. After that I just kept coming back to the restaurant and talking to her. We started to become good friends, and were hanging out. Now on holidays she comes over to my house and we spent holidays together. This Christmas I am thinking of getting her a new spatula, because I accidently lost her spatula that I borrowed. I hope that soon in the future Milly will be able to be meet my family. I haven’t seen my family in 4 years, because they live in another country, so I hope to introduce her. Milly is such a great friend.

Who lives in a pineapple over the sea? PINE-A-PPLE PANTS!!
I met Pineapple Pants five years ago because we both love to watch the show Spongebob Squarepants. We love to watch TV together and talk about pineapples.
Pineapple Pants lives in a town called Bikini City. He spends his days working at an art gallery and dancing at the Studio De Danse. He is very good at cooking. He loves to cook crab, lobster, shrimp, and all seafood. He lives next door to his best friend Patty. He and Patty love to blow bubbles and go butterfly catching.
Pineapple Pants is one of my very good friends. We are always there for each other. Pineapple Pants and I don’t get to see each other that much, so it is always fun when we do see each other.
Together, we sing a lot of songs. We sing the campfire song, the friends song, and the road song. We sing the road song when we go on fun road trips to Florida and Arkansas. If Pineapple Pants talks too much, I get annoyed. He has a very annoying high pitched voice that hurts my ears sometimes.
Pineapple Pants has very good style. He always looks on point. He also loves to play with his pet dog named Larry. His house is made out of a sponge because he is so small, he can fit inside of one! When we play hide and seek, he always wins because he is so small.

Serena Yvonne lives in Marseille, France. She is Queen Grace’s daughter, but she really doesn’t like it. Serena likes to act, paint, and sing. Serena has a couple of paintings in the Art Gallery of Marseille. Serena and I met each other at an art gallery in Nançay, France. We had just started to argue about a painting. That is one of the problems in our relationship. One time we had got into a real argument and got pissed-off. We didn’t talk for a week. Some stuff that we both like to do is go to art galleries, watch sports games, and play or watch Pokemon. We have known each other for 4 years. Actually the way we meet was through our parents. My dad is the Prime Minister of France. So he wanted me to meet the Queen’s daughter, Serena. We had to meet each other at the Art Gallery, and just walked around. We weren’t the fondest of each at the beginning, but eventually we grew to like each other.
My best friend Mr.McGibblets
My best friend also happens to be my imaginary friend. His name is Mr. McGibblets,he is the mascot for the new football team in the NFL. I met Mr.McGibblets three years ago at a football game, I was chosen to do this challenge at the game and Mr.Mcgibblet was instructed to come and get me and bring me down to the field. I was in section 208, row seven and seat 12, I remember it to this day. To give you some background section 208 is in the second level of the stadium so it was a fairly long walk down. While we walked down he started asking me questions like what my name was and how many games I’ve been too etc. I told him my favorite team was the Dragons of course. Mr.McGibblets was the mascot for the Dragons, he has two big horns and his body is all purple with green wavy stripes across his body. So when we got to the field the announcer explained the challenge to everyone and the prize of course, a dinner with the team and Mr.McGibblets house! When the challenge started I was throwing like Brady Tom, the Dragons quarterback. I couldn’t miss, each of the footballs I threw went straight through the opening in the big plastic cylinder. I had won. The crowd was going crazy, and Mr.McGibblets was holding me over his head. Fast forward 2 weeks to the dinner. We show up at the address that they had given us, we had to rip it up and throw it away after we got there so his house couldn’t be found. We rolled up to this crazy looking house, later he explained it was so that no one would expect he lived there. When we got inside, the purple and green colors of the Dragons were everywhere with the exception of a bright orange floor and couch. I was shellshocked. During the dinner I sat next to him and Brady Tom. I really bonded with Mr.McGibblets. After the dinner he told me that I should come over more often. Me being the football freak I am accepted immediately. This is when we first met. Fast forward again 3 years, present day. Mr.McGibblets and I do everything together, we watch football together, we play football together, we cheer on the same team and we eat together. Mr. McGibblets has been by my side for the last three years and we truly are best friends. My mom of course thinks I’m crazy because there is “no football team called the Dragons” but between me and you… there definitely is.

My Imaginary Friend, Lancaster
Lancaster, is a new friend to me, he is not one of the old friends that you hear about in the movies. Lancaster and I don’t go very far back but that does not mean we’re not good friends. One day I was walking down with some friends when we saw a clock tower that we never noticed before. We ran into the building, it looked abandoned but the clock was still working. The outside was all reddish brown brick with a bright red roof. I opened the door cautiously and peeked inside. Inside the room had yellow and gray walls . On the wall I noticed that there was a painting of the building with a strange looking man in front of it. My friend tapped me on the shoulder, cautioning me to turn around. When I turned around I saw a burly haired man with a red barrett. He had rags as his clothes and looked very filthy. From that moment we became great friends. He let me use the clock when the hour changed. The clock was a very cool contraption, All of the gears where in the wall so the whole upper floor was very clean and pleasant. I asked him where he slept. He told me that he had apartment downtown. One day when we were supposed to hang out I looked him up and it turned out that he won the lottery when he was 32 and he donated half of it to charity.

My Friend Adam
My friend Adam appeared with his family (The Smiths) on October 22nd, 2003, with his family in my neighborhood. We weren’t really old enough then to actually meet each other, but in my kindergarten year of 2009, I met him and he invited me over to his house. The first thing I noticed when we walked home to his house was that it was ENORMOUS, like, larger than any other house I had ever seen, I figured he must have a pretty nice life, living in a house like that. We went inside and I met his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and then we went down to his basement to play games on his PS2, which was the leading game console at the time, and we descended down the stairs and he had a giant, flat screen TV. I knew he had to be pretty spoiled considering what was just lying around his house, but Adam was actually a very nice kid who likes to play with other people, and he was very charitable with how he spent his money. This is why Adam is my friend. (Not just because he has a lot of money.)

Essay Of I.F.
by Macy A.
Once upon a time, there was a man, named Derek. Derek was an employee at a tattoo parlor. One day, a man who called himself, “Dark Shadow,” showed up asking for a tattoo of an invisible cloak.
“But, how can I tattoo something invisible?” Derek asked Dark Shadow, who gave Derek a weird look, and said,
“Just use this,” he put a greenish blue liquid into the ink’s needle compartment.
“Ummm, ok,” Derek takes the needle and starts to inscribe a cloak into the Dark Shadow’s forearm. Once done, Derek steps back and admires his work, but something funny is happening, the tattoo seems to be….moving, it looks as if the cloak is flowing in the wind, and then, it disappears into his arm.
“WOAH! WHAT HAPPENED?” Derek asks.
“Magic,” says the Dark Shadow, and walks away and out of the parlor. Confused, Derek decides to take a break.
Later that day, he decides he wants a tattoo for himself, something like a logo. He flips through sample pages and decides he wants the letter “D” inside a kite using red, blue and green. He tries to do it himself, in the mirror, which seems unwise, but Derek isn’t all that wise. He finishes his work, and admires it. But this tattoo looks funny, just like the Dark Shadows did. It seems to be blowing in wind that isn’t there. But his tattoo doesn’t go into his skin like the cloak tattoo, it rises up, like a cupcake being baked. All the sudden, his jeans are replaced with black pants and he is given black gloves and black shoes. Then it hits Derek, “I’m a superhero!” He’d seen enough avenger movies to know what was going on. He decided to check his powers, he steps on his desk, and jumps off, right as he is about to hit the ground, he flies.
“WOOHOO!” he says as he zips around his little parlor. He goes out the door and into the street. He decides to look for someone in danger, being a superhero and all. He zips around and see’s a girl, getting robbed. He goes into the dark alley she’s in, grabs the robber by his collar, and throws him to the ground. And that’s how Derek met Macy, and they were imaginary friends, forever.

My imaginary friend’s name is Jedediah. He lives in the swamp by himself and he is my friend because I keep him company when he is lonely. My friend is a monster but the name is deceiving because he is a nice monster. We like to go walking through the swamp together because that is how we met. He was bored by himself walking through the swamp and I met him there. His house is the swamp but in no particular place there. He lives in the swamp because that’s where he was born and stays there because it reminds him of when he used to live there with his now dead family. The swamp is thick with trees and a light shallow water mixing with mud. Long vines hang from the trees.

My Imaginary Friend, Madame Fiona
Madame Fiona is a good friend of mine. She is a fortune teller in her tiny town of Lowry Ville. It is a very small town on the outskirts of Pennsylvania. Madame Fiona has lived there her entire life, and always knew she was going to be a fortune teller. Her great grandmother Madame Lola introduced her to the art of telling fortunes. Madame Lola raised Fiona on the top floor of her shop. Madame Fiona’s childhood was fun and magicals and she says. Her great grandmother taught her everything she knows.
In Madame Fiona’s free time she enjoys buying antiques, especially antique jewelry. That’s how we met. We both were in the local antique shop, owned by one of her good friends Clara, and we bumped into one another while looking for earrings. We then spent 20 minutes chatting about stones and the new kinds of earth materials used in modern jewelry. We decided to meet for coffee at a cool coffee shop called The Coffee Cup. That day she wore a long dark purple dress with blue and white sparkles. She told me it made her feel like the sky.
Madame Fiona also likes reading greek myths about mystical creatures. We have discussed mystical creatures such as griffins, many times.
Her fortunes are very accurate. Her clients trust her very much. In her fortune teller shop she does crystal ball, card and hand readings. Her favorite readings are the crystal ball ones. Her crystal ball has been in her family for hundreds of years and many generations. Madame Fiona likes being a fortune teller because she gets to help people.
Madame Fiona is one of my very great friends. Her personality, or her aura as she calls it, is bubbly and bright. She always lights up the room.

Madame Fiona is one of my very great friends. Her personality, or her aura as she calls it, is bubbly and bright. She always lights up the room.
