MIXED MEDIA
Rotation three is full of adventures and journeys. Students lead you to their private spaces by recreating those special places using a myriad of media. They had a study of miniatures and understood that they had to take their real world and shrink it down... These pictures are just the beginning.... More will follow. :-)
The finished projects are PHENOMENAL!
Rationale
Before we even starred the project we decided what our special place/ room we were going to create was. After we chose our space we would be designing we started with a cardboard base, wall and window. After that I painted the walls the color of my choice and same with the floor. Once the floor was painted I cut the cardboard in order to create a window. After the window was cut out I made a wooden frame and picked out a photo that I thought would be good view from my bakery. Then I used cardboard and started to create the shingles that are on the outside. Now that I have created the basic fundamentals of my bakery, I have started to work on the interior design. I recently created a rug out of material that I wove. I made 4 chairs and 2 tables out of balsa wood. In order to create the table and chairs I had to cut out balsa wood and sand it down. After that I had to hot glue on the legs on to the table/chairs. My most recent step was creating wall decor to make my bakery look like a real place. I am continuing to work on the different parts of my bakery that make it more realistic.
What and How:
My room is going to have a bed, a desk, a dresser, a bookshelf, and a piano. I will make the bed out of foam rubber and the legs will be made out of wood. The desk is also going to have wood legs, but the desktop will be cardboard. There will be a lamp on the desk and a flower pot as well. I can make the lamp out of wire and the head out of paper, and there will be little flowers. I will make a bookshelf out of cardboard, and fold colored paper over cardboard for books. My bed frame will be out of wire and the mattress out of foam rubber.
Explanation of why:This space is special to me because it’s my actual bedroom. I sleep in here, meaning I spend about nine hours a day in my room. It’s quiet inside and it’s a good place to get work done.

I have decided that my room is going to be a princess bedroom, because ever since I was little I have loved princess movies and so i have decided that is what I want my room to look like.
How am I going to do it? Well, I will first glue the walls together, and will paint the walls a grey color, then I will make a window and one door, and start making a bed, add paintings, add a picture behind the door and the window to make it look like there is an actual scenery outside, and then i will make a table, chair, and a computer with a keyboard, because I thought that a princess would have a modern looking room and then I wanted to add a bean bag just to add a little more furniture and I'm going to do that by taking some fabric and stuffing it with cotton balls and stitching it together. And then for the computer I'm going to take cardboard and make it into a vbox and add a thin coat of hot glue let it dry and color it black or just print a picture of a website or something like that and for the bed I just need to make a frame and add some cotton balls and add some fabric, but anyways for the window I'm gonna add some curtains that match the bed sheets, and for the keyboard I’m gonna take some cardboard and make the little keys by using a thin sharpie. I wanted my room to be a little modern and even though I don't think that my room turned out they way I wanted it to, I'm still proud of it and happy with the way it turned out.

What- I am building a mini room with a stove, cupboard, table, teacups, a teapot, a window with curtains, dolls and stuffed animals, candles, and flowers. I still have to add most of the items I’ve listed, but so far, I’ve built and painted and built the room, floor, window, curtains, cupboard, and I’m almost done with the stove.
How- To construct the room, I glued 3 pieces of cardboard together to make a 7x6x7 room. I painted the walls light purple by mixing white and purple paint together. To make the floor, I used balsa wood. I cut it into mini floorboards, and used wood glue to glue them to the piece of cardboard that was acting as the floor. To make it look like there were nails holding the floorboards down, I used a tiny paint brush to paint little dots. To make the window, I cut a forest scene out of a National Geographic magazine, and glued cardboard around it, to look like a window sill. To make the curtains, I took a yellow lace and cut it into mini curtain sizes. I took a string to tie them back, and glued them to the top of the window, which I glued to the wall. I built the cupboard out of cardboard, by building a little box, and making a slit down the middle, so there are two doors in the cupboard. I still have to add knobs to open the cupboard, which I will probably make out of beads or cardboard. To make the stove, I also used cardboard. I made another box with a little part going up at the top. I painted it to say the time, and the temperature of the oven. At the box part, I painted an opening for the oven. I still have to add the stove on the top, and a handle to open the oven. I will probably make those both out over wire.
Why- I love tea, so I decided to build a room with a tea party. When I think of tea parties, I think of dolls and stuffed animals sitting around a table and “drinking” tea. Since I want to make this realistic, I’m probably going to have them sitting on the ground, because I don’t want any real humans in the room. Then, of course, you have to have tea, hence the tea pot, stove, and teacups.

The process of making my miniature all started with one simple idea. What was the one space that I felt in perfect peace. I realized I was less stressed when I was in an open room such as my room. Thus the idea of my room was born. I went on to paint my walls and use smaller materials to look like bigger ones in the real world. Everything in my room is metaphorical for who I am as a person. A shelf reminds me of how I hold everyone in my family together. On the outside of my room you can see through the window, aliens attacking a city. The reason is that in real life many bad people are attacking those who cannot protect themselves and the aliens represent those who bully the weak. The reason this is on the outside of the window is to show how people just watch and don’t act when one is bullied and this is something that should be changed. This is not the world one wants to grow up in.
The reason that I made the room the way that I did is because of the way I perceive things. I can see anything in my mind, but to make it a reality it is much harder. The process I took to make this was first, imagining my room in my mind, then I shrunk it down. The main reason why I chose my room is because it is one of the only places where I can get some peace and quiet. I also have a lot of stuff in my room. So, first I had taken balsa wood and cut it in strips and laid it on the floor like a hardwood floor. Then, I took a craft knife and cut out a window and then put a window frame over it. I did this so I could put a picture in the window. My room also has an Xbox, which I made out of popsicle sticks, then I put it in black paint. I then took wire, and put it from the xbox to the t.v. The reason that I did this was because I wanted to have a tv.
I had three square pieces of cardboard which I glued together to form two walls and a floor. I mixed blue, green and white paint together to make a turquoise color to use to my walls. After I painted all my walls I took balsa wood to make my wooden floors. I cut the balsa wood into short and long strips and glued them on the floor. Using yellow, white and brown paint along with water I made a wash for my wooden floors. I made a bed frame using three stripes of cardboard which hot glued to form a rectangle. Then to make my mattress I took a rectangular piece of rubber foam and put it inside of my bed frame. To make the sheets for my bed I hot glued a piece of fabric on my mattress. I made a window by cutting out a square from one of the walls using an x-acto knife. To make my painting a splattered green, purple, blue and white paint on a square piece of poster board. I plan to make a bedside table and a bookshelf out of wood.
